3rd and 4th grade classes release balloons for a science/geography experiment.

GT Nomination

Slocum ISD will be accepting nominations for the K-12 gifted and Talented Program through April 1, 2011.  The Gifted and Talented Program identifies and serves gifted students in grades K-12.  Nominations for the program are accepted from parents, teachers, and community members.  Nomination forms may be obtained from the principal’s office located at 5765 East State Highway 294, Elkhart, Texas 75839 or from Lisa Missildine, GT Coordinator for the district, 903-478-3624.

Good Luck to the Slocum Ag Mechanics team. They are taking a trailer to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The Pre-Kindergarten classes have been learning about farms this past couple weeks. The churned butter and made their own home made ice cream. This week they planted bean plants and started making observation journals on them growing.

Slocum baseball won the Apple Springs tournament last week, and the Slocum softball team also did very well in their own tournament that they hosted last week. This Friday both teams are going to Apple Springs. This will be the second district game for the boys and first for the girls. Good luck Mustangs!!

The UIL Academic teams will compete in Lovelady on Friday, March 28 and at TVCC in Palestine on Friday, April 1.

On Thursday, Slocum's 3rd and 4th graders released 65 balloons as a science and geography experiment. The idea came from a video conference with Reed Timmer of Discovery Channel's TV show "Storm Chasers."  Hopefully we will be able to track how far each balloon traveled.  Each balloon has a self-addressed, stamped postcard attached.  We ask that anyone who finds one of the balloons please complete and return the postcard!
