Students learned about the exterior and interior anatomy of the egg, last week in Mrs. Salem's Advanced Animal Science class at Slocum ISD. The lab consisted of learning about egg production, mass egg handling, grading the exterior and interior of the eggs to USDA standards, candling the eggs, and identifying the parts of the interior of the egg. The picture above shows the students judging the eggs using the "breakout method".
7th grade Science students in Mrs. Oller's classes are trying their hands at teaching! Each six weeks the students go into the K-2 classrooms and teach students the science skills they have learned. The benefit of these mini labs is for the junior high students to demonstrate the knowledge they have gained, and for the younger students to learn science from older students who they may look up to. It is an excellent way for all of the students to learn other than paper pencil tasks, and it is also a positive way for our junior high students to influence our younger students.
PreK students in Mrs. Gean and Mrs. Becton's class were "community helpers" this week. They went to Brookshires to bake cakes and also to Mazzios to make pizzas. After "working", they went to the park to play! They were very excited and had a great time.
